Marquette Yarnwinders

Marquette Yarnwinders Fiber Guild members practice traditional handmade fiber arts, including weaving, spinning yarn, felting, embroidery, knitting, crochet and wool fiber preparation. Most of these arts are practiced in many cultures throughout the world; several members have explored Scandinavian weaving, in particular traditional Norwegian styles of tapestry and rug weaving. Members have demonstrated at many events in the Marquette area, including previous traditional Folklife events, the Lake Superior Fiber Fest held at Marquette Regional History Center, the Downtown Marquette Farmers Market, and public fiber demonstrations at Peter White Public Library.

Generally, its members are self-taught, but most have family fiber arts traditions passed down from relatives. Many have traveled to workshops and classes. The Guild has been active in Marquette for 80 years, and they continue to pass on traditional fiber arts knowledge from older to younger members as part of their mission.
